SOME SIMPLE GUIDELINES:
Refrain From:
- Promising a positive outcome
- Minimizing the seriousness of her challenge
- Attempting to make decisions for her
- Expecting her to handle her challenges as you would
Focus on:
- Allowing her do it her way!
- Reassuring her that you are there for her...and willing to share in
her journey
- Listening with empathy...she may just want to "vent" (without
expecting a solution)
- Asking what you can do to help...and follow through with action
- Doing what you feel will be most helpful...based on her uniqueness
and yours!
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUPPORTERS/CAREGIVERS:
- Volunteer to run errands (to the grocery store, drug store, dry
cleaners, etc.)
- Send a quick card, note, or email often...as an ongoing reminder of your support
- Organize a calendar for others to schedule "help days" or days to bring food
- Bring nutritious food that is ready to eat or reheat (ask about dietary restrictions)
- Give her our miniature boxing gloves (autographed by you and other supporters)
- Offer to help with baby, child, or pet care when appropriate
- Volunteer to take her to the doctor or treatments (and stay with her)
- Give her a "care" basket with magazines, books, or CD's that will interest her
- Drop off a "movie" basket, including uplifting videos or DVD's (and return them when due)
- Do household chores (like organizing her healing space or doing dishes or laundry)
- Be generous with reassuring hugs, etc.
- Share in her tears and/or laughter - they will provide a much needed release!
At "Fight Like a Woman", our purpose isn't to provide
medical information or advice on dealing with the
physical challenges you are facing. There are many
reliable resources for those needs.
Rather, our intention is to provide inspiration and
empowering products to enhance the emotional
(spiritual or personal) aspects of your journey.
